CNG Transportation

Description of Project:

ACMA was contracted by EnerSea Transport LLC to design EnerSea's breakthrough VOTRANS™ (Volume Optimized Transport and Storage) compressed natural gas (CNG) marine transport vessel and to assist in obtaining "class approval in principle". VOTRANS is a virtual sea-going pipeline comprised of long, large-diameter pipes contained within an insulated structure integrated onto a ship. VOTRANS technology provides the unprecedented capability of moving up to 2 billion cubic feet of CNG per ship over distances up to 4,000 miles at significantly lower total cost than liquefied natural gas (LNG) or pipelines.

ACMA's assignment was focused on vessel concept and development, which included ship dimensions, hull design, auxiliary systems and powering requirements. Along with cost estimation, the ACMA team also performed damage/intact stability analyses, longitudinal strength analyses, and motion analyses. In addition, ACMA participated in ABS and DNV hazard identification workshops.

Type of Project: Offshore Import Terminal

Client: Woodside Petroleum Ltd.

Description of Project:

In the first phase of a U.S. West Coast offshore import terminal for Woodside Petroleum Ltd., ACMA played a key role in the formulation of all marine aspects in the project that pertained to logistics, environmental, safety and marine equipment selection. ACMA also provided extensive knowledge of under-sea loading buoys, as well as vessel/buoy moorings and ship maneuvering and docking issues.
